Playing Catch Up

I hate that it's so hard for me to find time to sit in front of the computer these days, because I have so many posts in my head that need to be published!  Earlier tonight I finally pulled all the pictures off my camera that I've taken the last few weeks.  Surprisingly, I haven't taken nearly as many pictures as you would think.  But I do have a few so I'm going to attempt to play catch up with everything that's happened since we've had Katie Wynn at home.  This post may be all over the place as I'm just going to go whereever the pictures take me! Here's what's been hanging on our front door since we made it home from the hospital.

We've also had a banner hanging in our [still undecorated] living room that Jenny and Darrin brought to us in the hospital.

We came home with a slew of flowers that ended up lasting forever!  I loved having all the pink in the house.

My mom helped me give Katie Wynn her first sponge bath.  She did not like it one bit.

She also does not like to have her clothes changed.  She wails and carries on the whole time.

Her screaming worries Lolli to no end.  She's convinced we're hurting her up on the changing table.

We've only had the big kids at the house for one night since bringing Katie home, and it was a really good night!  Wyatt is still hesitant to hold her (as any 12 year old boy would be) but still seems very interested in her.  He asks lots of questions and I've even caught him playing with her toes!  Anna loves holding the baby and taking care of her.  She helped me give her a bath and lather her up with lotion.  She's going to be a great helper!  Of course, the bath brought on more tears...

It usually only takes a few minutes after the bath and getting dressed before she's back to her sweet self again.

We've had lots of visitors which has been really nice.  We love showing off the baby and having our house full of friends and family.  How sweet is this picture of our friend Matt helping his daughter, Wesley, hold the baby?!  I think Wes is going to be a good big sister one day.

Lolli is slowly adjusting to having the baby in the house.  I think she gets jealous of the attention, but she's also becoming very protective of her little sister!  I often find her laying as close to the baby as she can get.

We had Katie's first set of professional photos taken when she was just nine days old.  A friend of mine from college came and spent the bulk of a day at our house taking pics.  She was so gentle and patient with Katie, even when she used the bathroom on every backdrop!  I've already seen the proofs and they are so, so good.  I can't wait to receive my copies so I can show them off to you!  The picture below is from the middle of the photoshoot.  If you look at the back of the white frame that Katie is laying in, you can see it's yellow.  That's when things got a little explosive.  What you can't really see in the picture is that her poop goes all the way to the back edge of the grey blanket.  That's my girl. :)

One of Doc's customers sent us a gift for Katie Wynn - a cute Notre Dame onesie and blanket.  She's been helping cheer on the Irish ever since.

We had a little date night at home one night and Doc prepared a fancy meal.  Here he is slaving away in the kitchen.

The meal was deeeeelicous - scallops and bacon over cheese grits and broccoli.  Yum!!  Scallops was one thing I didn't eat while pregnant, and I was ready to have them again.

We had the cutest centerpiece on the table that night during dinner...

"Did you say scallops for dinner, Mom?"

"Aww, yeah!  I love scallops!"

She didn't end up getting any scallops, but I think she may have had sweet dreams about them while we scarfed 'em down.

On Katie's two-week birthday she attended her first church service.  She wore the dress I smocked for her as soon as I found out she was a girl.  I wish I had a better picture of her in it because she looked so pretty!  She was a perfect angel during church; she slept right through it and never made a peep.  There was a rosebud on the alter for her and she was able to attend her first Holy Communion.  Obviously she didn't receive any bread or grape juice, but we loved getting to pray with her at the alter railing.

Doc's parents spent the better part of a week with us and we loved having them here!  They were such a huge, huge help to me, and I think they really enjoyed getting to spend time with their granddaughter.  I'm kicking myself now for not taking more pictures while they were here.

These two bonded over many bottles.  She loves her Poppa!

And Lala seemed to have the perfect touch to calm her down and put her right to sleep.

I stole this picture from Lala.  I love it!  I have a feeling I'll be getting this look a lot.

Doc and my dad spent last weekend away on their annual boys' weekend trip.  Katie Wynn and I spent the weekend with my mom at her house.  She got to take a nap on my mom's big bed...something all of the grandkids usually enjoy doing!

The weekend was a little bit stressful because I think she had her first growth spurt.  I felt like I couldn't keep her full!! On her 3-week birthday, she got her first taste of formula.  I'm mixing it with breastmilk right now but I think she'll be having bottles of it by itself very soon.  Look at how full her little cheeks have gotten!

Snuggling with Mimi on the front porch...

We survived our second church service even without the guys there to help hold her.  I was nervous to take her by myself but her Aunt Jenny was there to hold her the whole time!  I tried to get a picture of her in her white dress, but she kept sticking her tongue out at me!

That's all the pictures I have for now.  We attempted a fall photoshoot this afternoon so I have lots of pictures to go through and edit.  I have already narrowed it down from 355 pics to 159...there's still a lot to delete!  Hopefully I'll have those soon.

And for any of you that are totally over all these baby posts, don't you worry - I've knocked out some craft projects that I plan on sharing soon too!

She's here!

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to update, but I've been keeping busy taking care of a very sweet little girl!  She must've gotten the message when I wrote this post, because the contractions started later that night! Katie Wynn was born Sunday, September 23rd at 8:51pm.  She weighed 7 lbs, 5 oz and was 19.5 inches long.

I am working on writing out the birth story with all the details, so be expecting that soon.  In the mean time, here are some random pictures we've taken with our phones.  Hopefully I'll have better quality ones to share soon!

As you can see from her sleeves, all the clothes we took to the hospital for her were way too big!

She was feeling pretty sassy our last morning in the hospital!

Ready for first car ride...headed home!

This one is my favorite so far.  She just looks like a little angel, sleeping so peacefully.

Lolli doesn't really like being in second place, but she has become pretty protective of her little sister.

We've been home for 3 nights now, and each night has been a little bit easier than the one before.  Fingers crossed that it continues to be that way instead of moving backwards.  We are so very in love with this precious little girl.  She has already changed so much from those first two days in the hospital!  I'll be back soon with more, but if it takes me a few days, you'll know I'm busy snuggling with my sweet pea.

Busy Saturday

Happy 4th of July, everyone!  I hope you are either staying out of the heat or staying in a swimming pool (or lake, beach, etc)!  Doc and I just got home from spending the afternoon at my brother's house, where we hung out at their pool and enjoyed a delicious, festive meal.  Last night we celebrated our country's independence with all of our friends at a cookout.  I'm sad to say I have zero pictures from both events, but it's still been a nice holiday.  I plan on finishing it out on the couch, and maaaybe going to see some fireworks tonight if I can muster up the energy. While I don't have any Patriotic pictures to share, I do have pics from last Saturday.  Sometimes I decide to document a whole day with my cell phone, and this was one of those days.  It started really early when Doc got up to play golf at 6:30 and I couldn't go back to sleep.  I laid in bed contemplating what all I could do around the house before remembering that my mom had my niece and nephew at her house for the whole weekend.  You know what that means?  Saturday morning pancakes.  I hopped out of bed and rushed to get dressed and Lolli loaded up in the car; I was nervous I would miss breakfast!

When I arrived at my parents' house around 7:30, I peeked in the windows in the back before going in.  The house was still dark so I assumed they were all still asleep.  Score! I hadn't missed breakfast yet.  But I also knew my mom would kick my tail if I unleashed Lolli in the house and ended up waking the kids up too early, so I stopped short of opening the door and decided we better head out to the shop for a while.

I spent an hour or so out in the shop, getting a good start on some frames I'm working on, before walking back to the house.  This time I could see a small light on in the living room and knew my mom must be up.  I told Lolli to keep quiet and we headed in.  Mom was surprised to see me so early, and even more surprised when I told her I'd already been there for a while.  We chatted a while waiting for Bren and Jett to wake up but it never happened.  Do you know I had to finally go wake those little stinkers up at 9:45...I was starving!!

It was worth the wait...those pancakes were goooood.

After getting the kids dressed and cleaned up, we went for a quick shopping trip at a local consignment shop.  I was looking for a piece of furniture to use in the baby's nonexistant nursery, and I was lucky enough to find a piece I liked!  The store was about to close so we laid down the seats in the car and crammed it in.  The kids were excited to ride seatbelt-free.  (Don't worry, our drive was less than a mile.)

Mimi got to cram in the back with them too.

This is the beaut we brought home.  I have big plans for it and have already begun working on it.  Hopefully I'll have pictures to show you soon.

So I could get some work done in the shop, I put Brennie to work vaccuuming up sawdust.  If you ever want to keep a 3 year old busy for a while, might I suggest a shop vac?  She loved it! And she took her job very seriously.

That afternoon, we spent a couple hours at the neighbors' pool.  Doc thought he'd lay out on a raft and relax.  I'm not sure he expected to have so much company on his raft.

We had plans that evening so we left the pool early.  Chris and Allison had invited us over to their house for dinner.

Jenny and Darrin came for dinner too.

Meals prepared by Allison and Chris never disappoint.  For this dinner, they had prepared brisket (in a green egg), homemade cheese grits, and greens.  I think everyone at the table went back for seconds.  Dessert was equally as delicious...first we had a plate of cupcakes and cookies to choose from.  (This picture was taken early because I definitely filled my plate up with more than that.)

Then we had blood orange sorbet in champagne (sprite for me)!

We made it home around 11:00 and were completely and utterly exhausted from the long day.  But it was a good day - both productive and relaxing - and spent with people we love to be around!

Happy Father's Day!

I suppose this is one of those better-late-than-never kind of posts.  Nine o'clock in the evening isn't too late to wish all the Dad's out there a good day, is it? Doc and I are fortunate enough to both have awesome dads that have always been very involved in our lives.  And I think we've both been very happy to adopt the other's dad as our own.  Doc's dad, Bill, welcomed me into his life as another daughter with no hesitations and always has my back when Doc tries to tease me.  He's also my eating buddy and always has a brand new bag of potato chips and french onion dip waiting on me when we visit.  He makes me laugh.  Doc and my dad have become pretty good friends too.  No matter how much time they spend together, they never seem to run out of things to talk about.  From work and the banking world to what they shot on the golf course to how to unclog a shower drain or the best way to put together a piece of furniture, they pretty much cover it all.  We love our Dads and wouldn't trade them for the world.

Unfortunately, Doc did not get to see Anna and Wyatt today since they're at the beach.  They did call him though and wish him a happy father's day.  I wrapped up a gift for him from baby girl - an embroidered Notre Dame onesie and burp cloth since her arrival will fall right in the middle of football season.  She's ready to cheer on the Irish!

My mom is out of town and she made me promise we'd take care of Dad for his special day (as if we wouldn't).  Doc and I invited him to join us for brunch at a new restaurant on S. Main.  The weather was so nice we were able to eat outside.

This restaurant is so new that they're still working out a lot of kinks and nailing down menu items.  We all had a waffle and I know it doesn't look like much, but it was probably the best waffle I've ever had.

While the boys chatted (I'm telling you, they talk about anything and everything), I went ahead and helped myself to a little dessert - a root beer float.  I can't help it; I'm eating for two.

Sadly, that was about the extent of our Father's Day celebration.  We knocked out a huge project this weekend, though, so I'll be back with pictures of that soon.

Swimming with Cuties

We spent our Memorial Day holiday hanging out at my brother's pool.  I know, that was, like, a month ago but I'm posting these pictures anyway!  The Sunday before we had no idea how we were going to spend our day off work, so of course we were more than thrilled when my sister-in-law Erin invited us over for the day.  An afternoon in the sun by the pool?  Yes, please.  And with my favorite little cuties?  Heck yes! Will you forgive me if once again I post unedited photos?  It's getting close the 9pm and this girl's already getting tired!

Ben and Erin took on most of the cooking (I should actually probably just say Erin) and made BBQ chicken, hot dogs, and hamburgers.  Erin outdid herself and made three flavors of homemade ice cream - vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry banana.  They just asked the rest of us to bring snacks to go with all of that, so I prepared fresh fruit skewers.  Since I had so many grapes left over, I also made a tray of cute green caterpillars for the kids.  (Can't take credit for the idea - I saw it online somewhere, I'm just not sure where).  They were super easy - grapes on a skewer with mini chocolate chips.  I used melted white chocolate to make the chips stick.

I'll try to limit my commentary tonight and keep this short and sweet.  Basically, just picture the girls in lounge chairs chit-chatting, the boys playing pool basketball, and the kids running and splashing and shooting water guns.  Oh, and if you can, also picture my brothers and husband taking turns diving through a tiny kid-sized inner tube to see who could make it through.  Only one did and I won't name names, but it's the one sitting on the couch next to me right now.  It was very interesting getting to watch the other two figure out how to wiggle out of that floatie.

Doc is always popular with the kids.

I had a short photoshoot with these two, but we had to start with silly faces.

Kissing cousins.  (Again!)

Parker and his woman...

I can't leave out this cutie!

That chunky monkey was squeezed into his bumbo seat and he was perfectly content watching everyone swim.

But he had lots of visitors stop by to talk to him too.

In case you're wondering, Jett was also there but he was too cool for my camera.  I hope that doesn't last long.

One last pic before I sign off.  Poor Parker just couldn't keep those 3T swim trucks up.  At least he has a cute little bootie.

Now it's my bedtime...g'night!
