New Bikes!

Our anniversary was last Thursday.  We've officially been married for four years now, and I completely forgot to write a post about it.  {bows head in shame...} Doc decided that for our anniversary plus Mother's Day and Father's Day, we were getting new toys for ourselves!  And that's how we ended up at the bike shop last weekend.

We've been wanting bikes for a while.  Our last neighborhood was perfect for them, but we didn't have any spare room in the garage to store them so we kept holding off on buying any.  Now, with our 3-car garage, we have room!

My requirements were a comfy seat, wide tires, and easy to pedal.  They pointed me to the "cruiser" section and let me test ride several.

Truth be told, I didn't really want a bright hot pink bike.  I was really eyeing the green and turquoise ones, but in the end, this one was the most comfortable for me to ride so it was the winner.  (I promise I won't dress to match it every time I ride it.)  The enormous basket was a bit of an impulse buy.  I was totally sold when the bike guy showed me how it easily pops off and has handles so you can take it into the grocery store with you, do your shopping, and then pop it back on and ride home.  Again, this would've been awesome in our old neighborhood where there was a grocery store within riding distance.  We don't really have one close now, but I got the basket anyway!

Doc's bike is more excercise-y than mine.  He plans on doing longer rides.  I overheard the bike guy telling him this was the "coolest bike in the shop."  He better plan on riding it every day! (Just kidding, Doc.  But only kinda...)

It would make zero sense for us to both have bikes but not have a way for Katie bug to ride along with us, so we also purchased the pull behind trailer.  I kinda love it, and luckily so does she!  It can be used as just a stroller too, and two children can fit in it.

We've already been on several bike rides.  This past weekend, we had Wyatt at our house and he insisted on pulling Katie Wynn on his bike.  He pulled her the whole ride!

As it turns out, it's a good thing I bought the enormous basket because now Lolli can tag along on our rides too!

She was a tad bit nervous when I first put her in it, but she never tried to jump out.

We rode all over our neighborhood.

Occasionally I would pull up beside Katie Wynn to see how she was doing.  I got a little wave from her. :)

She was still all smiles at the end of our adventure too.

I guess I'm glad I've been getting some exercise, but I won't lie...sometimes I wish I could sit in the trailer with KW and just be pulled along.

Happy Mother's Day!

Oh happy day to all you fellow mamas out there!  I hope your day has been lovely.  I have to admit, I was so excited about the gifts I made (yes, made!) for our moms that I kinda forgot this day was for me too. I was reminded this morning when, after getting to sleep in, I was brought breakfast in bed by the cutest little munchkin I know.  (She let her Dad help her make the pancakes, thankfully.)

breakfast in bed

I got to pick out and bring home my Mother's Day (and anniversary) gift last weekend.  I'll have pics of it for you soon.  I'll also have pics of the lunch we had today to celebrate Mother's Day and a couple family birthdays.

Mostly, right now I want to wish these two special women a very, very happy day!

marcia, pat, lucy (2)

We are blessed to get to call you our moms and will never be able to thank you enough for all that you do for us and our children.  I hope I can be half the mom that you two are to each of us.  Happy Mother's Day!  We love you!

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

The bad news is that we've had a lot of rain lately.  Like, a lot a lot.  The good news is that it gave us a good excuse to try on Katie Wynn's rain coat and have a little rain puddle photoshoot!  Of course, it was kinda chilly and my Mama gears kicked in and I didn't want her to sit directly in a puddle, so we improvised with a galvanized tin.  It still works, right? Prepare yourself for an onslaught of photos of my favorite girl on a rainy day!

"Mom, why isn't my boat going anywhere?"

Finally starting to smile...

Possibly my favorite one!

Or this one.  I love that her coat is open.  (You know I stripped her down to nothing but the coat.  I love a nekkid baby!)

Wanna know who was making her laugh?  These two clowns!  They insisted on having a photobomb shot.

Someone doesn't like sharing the spotlight...

There's that tongue again!

This is another one of my favorites.  That face!  Such sass!

I would say she was trying to taste the raindrops but it wasn't actually raining anymore...

I love a sweet profile...

Love this one too!

That's it.  A post without a point.  Now, which one should I use as the official photo for April?

10 Minute Photoshoot

A few weeks ago, I signed Katie Wynn up for a mini photoshoot with a local photographer.  I had never done one of these so I had no idea how it would work.  After signing up on Memory Mom's facebook page, I learned that we would have just a ten minute slot.  Oh dear!  Katie Wynn is usually a pretty happy baby but what if our ten minutes was while she was hungry and cranky? I signed up for an early slot - 8:10 - because I thought it was safest in terms of having a happy baby.  We ended up arriving about 30 minutes early and got to have her pictures taken early.  The photographer stopped snapping after about 4 minutes because she said she had more than enough good shots for our mini package.  Katie Wynn loved having her picture made!

Here are the ten photos we ended up with from the shoot.

I think she is starting to look a lot more like her daddy!

The photographer added some tulips for a pop of color and Katie Wynn went straight for them.

Seems she loves colorful flowers just like her mama!

That tongue!  I think I have just as many pictures with her sticking it out as I do with it in her mouth.

Here's a panned out shot so you can see the set up.  A wrought iron bed in a field with an old barn in the background.  I didn't know what colors would be on the bed.  In hindsight, the color of her dress isn't the best with what's on the bed, but oh well.

I loved how all of this worked out; it was so easy!  Sign up, show up, quick photoshoot, and then just pick up my cd of images two weeks later.  Can't wait to sign up for another one!

Uprooted and Replanted

Back at our old house, Doc and I had these two hydrangea plants that produced the biggest, prettiest flowers ever!  Seriously, the blooms were the size of my head. Hydrangea Head

While we lived there, I had told Doc over and over again that if we ever moved, we'd have to take the hydrangeas with us.  They were just too pretty to leave behind.  So about two years ago, we started working on splitting them (so we could eventually take half with us and still leave a plant there too).  By the time moving day arrived, we had turned our two hydrangeas into four.

Of course, on the actual moving day the last thing on our minds was digging up plants, so they got left behind to be dug up on another day.  But with the excitement of the new house and projects that were going on there, the hydrangea transfer kept getting pushed aside.

Until August 31st, that is.  I remember the day like it was yesterday.  It was a Friday and our first tenants were set to move in the very next day.  It was the last day our house would be unoccupied and therefore the last day we could be there digging up plants.  Doc was busy that afternoon so I had no choice but to stop by after work and dig them up myself.  It was over 100 degrees with the humidity out the roof and I was in a dress and sandals, but by golly I was not going to leave behind these plants I'd worked so hard on!  Oh, did I mention I was also three weeks away from having a baby??

I pulled up to the house and grab the shovel out of the back of my car and approached hydrangea #1.  It looked pretty pitiful since it hadn't been watered in about three weeks.

The lack of water made the ground ridiculously hard, and I was barely able to get any of the root dug up.  I was sweating buckets and this was all I could get.

I was still determined so I made my way over to hydrangea #2 that looked equally as pitiful.

Thankfully, I found a soft spot in the dirt and was able to get a better chunk of root on this one.

I brought my roots home to the new house and Doc found a spot in the flower bed to plant them.  Of course, shortly after came the baby so we were very inconsistent with our watering.  I peeked out the window at it all winter where it looked like a pile of sticks.  I was sure that it was dead...

...until just a few weeks ago when green leaves sprouted!  A successful plant transfer!!  I am so thrilled that it is still alive and can't wait to see if it actual blooms this year.  I'm gonna be watering this sucker like crazy.

Since I was already a hot, sweaty mess that day back in August, I decided to go ahead and grab these hastas too.  These were a wedding gift from some friends of ours; they had dug up some roots from their yard so we could plant them in ours.

I guess the ground was a little softer back there because I took them all!

And I am happy to report that these are doing just great!

We split them into two and they flank our front porch steps.

Three replant successes.  Now, if we could just get rid of the millions of weeds the previous owners left behind...
