Lately

A couple of weeks ago, we cat-sat for Porter while his parents owners keepers servants were out of town. As far as cats go, Porter's pretty cool. Not only is he really pretty (can you say that about male cats?) but he's also very friendly and sociable. We spent the week petting him and feeding him and reassuring that his real servants would return soon. As a reward, he gave me this surprise:

A Cuisipro Cupcake Corer and Decorating Set! Cool, right? This is awesome for two reasons:

1. I can now fill cupcakes with things like icing, preserves, ganache, marshmallow fluff, and who knows what else, making them even more delicious than regular cupcakes. 2. As the baker, I think it's only right that while coring a batch of cupcakes, I get to eat all the cored centers, a.k.a. the best part of the cupcake.  Oooooh yeah.

And, as if the cupcake coring set wasn't awesome enough, along with it also came this:

Oh yes, a book all about decorating cupcakes. Porter sure does know me well! I am so excited about this book. I have already read through all the tips and how-tos and have begun flipping through the different tutorials and recipes. Soon, I'll be able to make a batch of little yellow duck cupcakes, monster cupcakes, and even some that look like weenie dogs! Minnie will be excited about those.  Now, I just need to find a reason to get baking...

I bought some new tenny shoes.

I might actually start doing some physical activity to justify the purchase. Eh, we'll see.

Sunday, while getting ready for church, we encountered a nuclear-grade meltdown. I dry my hair using a round brush, and I do it in three sections. This particular time, I had finished the first (bottom) layer and was working on the middle section. It was feeling pretty dry so I started to lay the hair dryer down on the counter so I could unclip the top portion, and that's when I screamed. Doc came running. There was hair ALL over the counter. My eyes were huge.

"Why is my hair everywhere?" I asked. "I dunno, but it smells like something's burning up here." Doc replied. "It does?" I apparently couldn't smell it.

And then we turned and looked at the floor and found a few of these:

CLUMPS of my hair melted together and no longer on my head. What the what?!?

We're guessing my hair dryer kicked up the heat a little and started burning my hair. I now have new unwanted layers in my hair, and lots of frazzled, fried ends. I'm still trying to decide what to do about that. I have, however, already purchased a new hair dryer.

Sunday afternoon, while I was still upset over my melted hair catastrophe, my mom called to let me know that sweet little Parker had been taken to the emergency room.  Funny how things can quickly get put into perspective.

It turns out the little guy fell off his chair while eating breakfast and busted the back of his head open. He and his parents spent about 5 hours at the hospital getting him fixed up.  His mom, Erin, sent me a pic when the codeine kicked in and made him high as a kite.

He's doing ok now, I think. Back to running around everywhere. You aren't a tough two-year-old until you've had four stitches on your head.

We were able to get lots of building done over the long weekend: two benches, a small coffee table, a console table, and something else that I'll be showing you tomorrow. I'm so excited about everything we're making and we have officially decided to have a shop sale!

We're shooting for Sunday, December 5 so mark your calendars! If all goes to plan, we'll have lots of fun things for sale that would make great Christmas presents. Plan to come shopping and check out our work!

Sesame Street Party

In case you thought Bren was the only person in our family turning two this month, I've got pictures of Mr. Parker's playground party from this weekend to share. When we arrived, we saw that Poppy's Playground was decked out in decorations,

and everyone there was already playing hard. Even the big kids.

The birthday boy spent lots of time on the swing. And, as you can see in the pic, he was sporting a new Elmo tattoo.

Bren swung for so long it put her in a daze.

Anna had spent the night with a friend the night before, so we only had Wyatt there with us. I don't think it bothered him that he was older than the others; he played hard too!

In fact, he and Jett got ahold of a beach ball and played a long game of soccer.

(Look at all those bones! It was like a soccer match between the two skinniest players ever...)

Bren took a break from her swinging to enjoy a cold CapriSun.

After getting dried off and changing clothes, Wyatt played a tune on the piano for us. Bren thought he was amazing!

One of these pianists knows what they're doing; the other does not...

Finally, it was time for lunch! I ate with this goofball.

And then after lunch comes everyone's favorite part...cake!  Check out the super-cute cake Erin made.

Parker, with three tattoos at this point, was excited about blowing out his candles.

Some people were so excited about cake that they climbed right up on the table for a piece.

And others just stood back and patiently waited their turn.

Little did we know, that little girl was secretly waiting for everyone else to get their pieces so that she could have the rest of it aaaaalll to herself.

She decided that icing tasted pretty good!

Parker decided it was time to start going down the slide head first,

but Bren kept going on the icing.

Parker got a cool new bike from his parents,

and Bren got another scoop of icing.

Everyone watched as Parker opened his presents.

Well, everyone but Bren. She had a little more icing...

Three generations were excited about playing baseball,

and Bren finally decided she'd had enough icing. Phew!

Surprisingly, the icing overload didn't seem to faze her at all. I guess she's got her momma's sugar tolerance!

And, since my dad refuses to read my blog, I can post any kind of pictures of him I want, right? This is what I got when I asked him to please just smile for one picture.

It was a great birthday party! And I think the birthday boy took a good loooooong nap right after the last guest left. Success!

New School Year

Today's the first day of school for our kiddos. Summer is officially over. Boo. Here's a grainy iPhone pic of them dressed and ready to go!

As you can see from the picture, they'll be in fourth and fifth grades this year. They're growing up fast!

Also from the pic you can see the new shoes they picked out, alternating fingernail polish and silly bands on Anna, and a new Justin Bieber-esque hairdo for Wyatt.

Here's wishing them a great new school year!

Tea for Two

This week, my sweet little niece will be turning two. We celebrated this weekend with a tea party. The table was set with all her momma's fancy china, white linens, and fresh flowers.

Bren helped her mom prepare all the drinks.

And we all filled our plates with the delicious spread of food!

The girls took their places around the table to have tea with the birthday girl.

Since this was Bren's tea party, it was ok if you bit into your sandwich backwards,

or ate with your hands.

And you didn't even get in trouble if you accidentally spilled tea on your dress.

The boys were invited to the birthday party, but they didn't get to sit at the tea party table. They had to use plastic plates and eat in the living room. Well, except for this little dude.

And sometimes this one would sneak in, too.

Bren made sure the fishy was enjoying the party too.

While we were wrapping up lunch, the boys brought in Bren's present from her Mimi and Poppy...a new trampoline!

She wasn't sure what to do with it at first,

but after her bubby got on and showed her what to do,

she became a jumping fool!

She couldn't be bothered to look at other presents. Not even the 140 piece shopping cart set.

Or the Makin' Mud Pies station.

But I guess that's what grandparents are for...buying the super awesome presents!

A few more snapshots from the party...

I can't believe she's already [almost] two!
