Updates

So it's been a while, huh? Let's get caught up, shall we? **********

When I last posted, I had been to the doctor that day for a prescription. Turns out, though, that I picked up a little extra with that prescription...the stomach bug. It hit me early Tuesday morning and it was baaaaaad. I missed work Tuesday, Wednesday, and half of Thursday. I think that's the most I've ever missed for being sick. It took quite a few days before I was in the mood to eat again. Suffice it to say, I felt awful.

Remember the mantle from this post? I got to see it in person in its new home this past weekend. The homeowners eventually plan on updating the innards of the actual fireplace, but for now, I think it all looks pretty snazzy. What do you think?

This past weekend was my annual get together with my college girlfriends. It was so much fun. Three of the group have just announced that they're pregnant so it was weird fun talking about that. It definitely makes me realize how much we're growing up! I've known these girls for 9 and 1/2 years and I love them so much. Unfortunately, I never got my camera out, but hopefully someone will email me some soon so I can do a recap.

While I was slumber partying with the girls, Doc was at home with the kids. They are getting to the ages where they are so busy all the time! This weekend, W had a birthday party Saturday afternoon and A had an overnight party that night. It was nice that Doc and W were able to get in some good father and son time Saturday night. I think it was good for them.

The kids turned in their projects for the Academic Fair at school this week. Doc went at lunch today to see them. Here's A with hers:

And W with his:

Today is Day 15 with no caffeine. The headaches haven't been nearly as bad as I thought they would be, but I sure am sleepy a lot.  I used to spend all day drinking cokes; now I spend all day yawning. Seriously. I probably yawn at least 100 times a day. I just cannot seem to wake up!

I think Ellen's doing a good job on American Idol. I like that she doesn't just dish out a lot of fluff like Paula used to. She gives her honest opinion about how she feels about the songs but she doesn't a little more nicely than Simon. And, of course, I like to see the jokes she comes up with.

Next Monday is the finale on The Bachelor. He's gonna pick Vienna and it just kinda makes me sick. What in the world is he thinking?!?!

Tomorrow is Friday and I'm so glad. The week sure has felt long since I've been sleepy all day every day! :) Doc and I have absolutely nothing planned for the weekend. I don't remember the last time that happened, but I am so excited about it. Hope you're excited about yours too!

Blowing Rock, Day Four

Sunday's supposed to be the day of rest. Unfortunately for us, on this trip it was the day everyone got sick. The weather was pretty awful, though, so it wasn't too hard staying inside and lounging around all day. I love puzzles. All kinds: jigsaw, crossword, sudoku, brain teasers, etc. So, naturally, when I saw this puzzle at the Mast General store, we had to purchase it.

That's right, 1,000 pieces. And let me tell you, all of those jelly beans start to look exactly the same after about, oh, 2 minutes. It was tough!

But we did it!

You have no idea how much it pained me to immediately tear it up and put it in the box so we could leave the next day.

Anyway, we finally ventured out of the house late in the evening. Those of us that felt well enough headed over to Mellow Mushroom for some dinner.

No Blowing Rock vacation is complete without a trip to Kilwins.

Sometimes when you're 4 and a half, you have to ask for a little bit of help.

And that about sums up our family vacation. Here's hoping we get to go back next year!

Blow kisses bye-bye!

Blowing Rock, Day Three

Day three started with these....Mmmmmm.....

We spent all day Saturday out on the town. We did major damage at the Outlet Mall, which is why I have no pictures of this. Hey, I'm serious about my shopping. I can't be bothered with taking pictures when there are clearance racks to peruse.

Doc and I enjoyed a nice dinner out with my parents while the others stayed in with the babies.

Every night, after all the kiddos where tucked in bed, we grown-ups played this game:

Would you like to know the secret to being good at Catchphrase? Check it out:

Apparently, it's easier to get your teammates to guess the word if you use hand motions. Who knew? We played girls versus boys every night and I'm sad to say that the girls were not victorious. :(

As a blast from the past of my childhood, I bought some of these earlier in the day. They came in handy to ease the pain from the beating the guys gave us.

Don't we look like natural smokers?

What's the hardest puzzle of all time? I'll show you in the next post...

Blowing Rock, Day Two

Let's go skiing! (I should preface this by saying that my family is chocked full of amateurs when it comes to skiing. We choose to ski on a teeeeeeny tiny mountain. It could probably even be called a hill.)

Someone is not happy about having to attend ski school:

Some of us prefer to just watch.

Even the babies came to watch for a while.

Since the mountain is so small, we didn't stay for too long. There was still plenty of daylight when we got home so we quickly ran to the store to buy sleds and hit the hills of the resort. I am so sad I don't have pictures of this because it was probably one of my favorite parts of the trip. But who was time to take pictures when you're flying down the hill?! Especially if your mom is on the sled with you or you're racing your nephew!

My brother brought a video game to the resort to keep my nephew entertained. It would've been a nice gesture if he'd ever let the little guy play it...

These goons just watched.

Me? I just hung out in my snuggie.

Ok, that's all for now. Day three is next!

Blowing Rock, Day One

Doc and I just recently returned from a fabulous trip to Blowing Rock, NC with my family. BR's about 10 miles outside of Boone and is just the cutest little town. My parents hit the road the day before the rest of us with their car packed full of fishing poles, pack-n-plays, ski clothes, etc. The rest of us got up bright and early on Thursday and headed to the airport.  I was lucky enough to get to sit with this funny guy:

And his little sister sat in front of us.

We were the last passengers off the plane so we could try to meet the pilot. Not only did we get to meet him, but we also got to check out the cockpit!

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful. We flew into Charlotte so we still had a bit of traveling by car left to do. Driving in the mountains is not fun at all! Luckily for all of us, by the time we made it to our condo, Mom and Dad already had the fridge and pantry stocked and were ready to make dinner.

On day two of our trip, we hit the slopes. Stay tuned!

Side note: when I was a little girl, I loooooved to play with my dad's hair and he looooooved for me to do it. He was a great sport - I could braid it, slick it back, put bows in it, whatever. I really think he just enjoyed getting his hair played with and his head massaged. Anyway, looks like someone's getting ready to take over for me...
